The Spurlock is kicking off its April focus on climate, culture, and community action with back-to-back viewings of the Necessity Films. These award-winning films focus on the use of the necessity defense by activists in jury trials after being charged with trespassing. Both films center the struggles faced by Indigenous peoples as they navigate the encroachment of lethal chemicals onto their land brought by corporations.
Please join Spurlock staff and guest facilitators as we view the films and hold important discussions about the effects of the climate emergency—here in C-U and elsewhere.
Encouraged age: 12+; adults welcome, Social Studies teachers/students encouraged!
This program is partially sponsored by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
