Guru Nanak Birthday commemorates the birth of the central religious scripture of Sikhism, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus, regarded by many Sikhs as the final, sovereign and eternal living Guru following the lineage of the ten human Gurus of the religion. The celebration is generally similar for all Gurpurabs; only the hymns are different. The celebrations usually commence with Prabhat Pheris. Prabhat Pheris are early morning processions that begin at the Gurudwaras and proceed around the localities singing hymns. Students or employees may request scheduling adjustments in order to observe.
