Gina Nichols is the Science and Research Manager of Field to Market. She conducts research on multiple dimensions of agricultural systems as well as supports the multi-stakeholder Metrics Committee and Science Advisory Council to advance Field to Market’s metrics development.

Dr. Nichols has degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, Crop Science from Washington State University, and Sustainable Agriculture & Crop Physiology from Iowa State University.

For her Ph.D. work, she used a variety of models to explore and quantify the benefits of diversifying Midwestern maize-based crop rotations. In addition to being a skilled data scientist, Dr. Nichols has over 10 years of experience working on farms and collecting field data to support agronomic research.

She has a strong commitment to sharing the science and stories behind sustainable agriculture, having authored scientific publications, written popular press articles, and produced a three-part podcast series with Practical Farmers of Iowa titled 'Consider the Soil'.
