Community-engaged faculty across campus are invited to the next event in the Community-Engaged Research Series. Please join us Feb. 28 for an interactive workshop followed by a working lunch with Diane Doberneck, Director for Faculty and Professional Development in the Office for Public Engagement and Scholarship at Michigan State University.

In a recent spotlight, Doberneck shares insights into her journey and passion for community-engaged research, describing how her early academic experiences and a profound interest in collaborative problem-solving inspired her to pursue a career in professional development focused on fostering meaningful community partnerships. Doberneck expresses excitement about the future of community-engaged research, emphasizing the growing emphasis on co-creation, equity, and the use of digital tools to amplify impact.

Doberneck joined us last spring to discuss the key elements of community-engaged publishing, writing with community partners, unfurling a project into multiple publishing pieces, and strategizing on where to publish this work. This year’s event will build upon the first workshop, though you are welcome to attend even if you did not participate in last year’s workshop.

During the interactive morning workshop, Doberneck will discuss the key elements of successful community engagement and how to unpack projects into multiple publishing pieces for academic and public/practitioner audiences.

The workshop will be followed by a working lunch to discuss strategies for centering equity to develop sustainable, equitable partnerships with community organizations. If you are unable to attend the workshop, you may register to attend the working lunch.

Please register by Feb. 21 so that we can thoroughly accommodate all attendees. This event is designed for Illinois faculty researchers; space is limited.

The Community-Engaged Research Series aims to build and enhance the experience of community-engaged researchers across campus and provide them with the skills and resources needed to impact research in this space. Look for more information coming soon about another event on community-engaged writing and publishing. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of the Provost.
