Let's Take This Outside: Learning Out of Class (Summer Course Design Series #6)

Learning is not restricted to the classroom. That much is obvious, but less obvious is how to get students to do the work necessary outside of class to learn effectively. In this session, we'll figure out how to get students to do the reading (or other pre-work) for your class. We'll also figure out how to align your out-of-class work with your course learning objectives and assessments. It turns out the two goals are related. And what does all of this have to do with putting a Fitbit on a dog? Find out by attending this session.

The summer course design series will introduce you to the notion of backward course design, then use the backward design approach to guide you through the major steps of your course design. Originally created for graduate students about to teach their first full course, the series has proven useful to any instructor designing or redesigning a course, or even wanting to take a fresh look at an old course.

You don't need to attend every workshop in the series to benefit, but the more you attend, the more of a head start you'll have on your course design.
