Dr. Rohini Pande is the Henry J. Heinz II Professor of Economics as well as the Director of the Economic Growth Center and Faculty Director of Inclusion Economics, Yale University.
Drawing on multiple field experiments in India, Dr. Pande will discuss how gender norms constrain women’s economic outcomes and the role of policy in affecting change. She will focus on two ways in which the Indian state has sought to empower women – financial inclusion and mobile phone access. In both cases, successful technology adoption requires understanding and engaging with gender norms and associated power structures.
The Edmund James Lectures on Government series was established in 1935 in memory of President Edmund J. James.
