Title:   Busemann functions in the study of stochastic growth models.

Abstract:    The context of this talk is the search for useful techniques in the study of stochastic growth models. The topic is Busemann functions in planar lattice polymer models and in the continuum in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) stochastic partial differential equation in one space dimension. We describe the Busemann process in these settings and some results from its analysis. These include multiplicity of polymer Gibbs measures, nonexistence of bi-infinite polymer paths, coalescence exponents, and uniqueness of stationary distributions and non-uniqueness of eternal solutions in the KPZ equation. Based on collaborations with Tom Alberts (Utah), Erik Bates (NC State), Ofer Busani (Edinburgh), Sean Groathouse (Utah), Chris Janjigian (Purdue), Louis Fan (UNC), Firas Rassoul-Agha (Utah), Xiao Shen (NC State), and Evan Sorensen (Columbia/Indiana).
