Richard Vilim is a Senior Nuclear Engineer at Argonne National Laboratory and heads the Plant Analysis & Control & Sensors Department in the Nuclear Science and Engineering Division. He has over 40 years of professional experience in the design and safety analysis of nuclear reactors with ongoing research involving modeling and simulation of nuclear systems including control system design for flexible operation, the use of energy storage for load leveling, and artificial intelligence methods combined with physics-based methods for autonomous operation of engineered systems. Currently he is serving as the instrumentation and control subject matter expert for the DoD micro-reactor project. He received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is an author on over 375 reports and publications and 12 U.S. patents.
