The Threat Assessment Program strives to prevent targeted violence by employing a proactive, evidence-based approach to the assessment and management of threats posed, or potentially posed, to or by members of the university community. The program seeks to identify and deploy supportive resources for involved and impacted individuals.
The presentation offered through the Office of Threat Assessment provides further information about what threat assessment is, and what it is not, as well as resources to report concerning behaviors.
Bio: Moni Marcelo, is the Director of the Office of Threat Assessment the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She provides consultation to reporting parties and initiates coordination and outreach to ensure concerns are appropriately monitored. She is a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) and is trained in using tools to assess violence risk as well as suicidality including WAVR-21, CTAP-25, PROSPER, and TRAP-18. With a background in threat assessment, student affairs, and crisis management, she works closely with her team to provide holistic support and intervention strategies to their campus community.
Moni graduated with a BS from Central Michigan University with a focus on international business and Spanish for business. She studied abroad in Bulgaria, Spain, and Mexico and speaks several languages. After graduating, she spent two years working in corporate before earning her MS from the University of Miami in South Florida in higher education administration and enrollment management.
As a professional, Moni spent two years working within Residence Education Housing Services at Michigan State University and running several residence halls. She was selected to accompany housing students to Beijing, China to research Chinese housing practices. Afterwards, she was recruited by New York University to create the Residence Life and Student Conduct offices at their new campus in Shanghai, China. Most recently, she worked as a Behavioral Assessment Consultant and Student Case manager as part of the Threat Assessment Program at the University of Iowa.
