Grab your favorite breakfast and beverage and join fellow environmental professionals as A&WMA Lake Michigan States Section and the Union League Club Environmental Committee host John W Scott and Dr. Wei Zheng with the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center at the University of Illinois for a presentation on Environmental Impacts and Current Research on PFAS - Perfluoroalkylated Substances.

Perfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS) are a class of compounds that are entirely man-made and over 4000 individual PFAS are known to exist. Mass production of these compounds began in the 1950’s and their use spans a wide range of consumer and industrial applications. The properties of PFAS are quite unique when compared to other organic pollutants and they are known to be extremely persistent in the environment. Given the properties of PFAS coupled with their wide spread use, the occurrence of PFAS in the environment has become ubiquitous. As the concern for these chemicals in the environment has recently been recognized, agencies are beginning to position themselves to regulate this class of compounds. This presentation will provide background about PFAS and discuss some of the current research activities in this area of environmental pollution.

Cost to attend for A&WMA and ULC members is $25.00 and non-members are invited to join for the minimal cost of $25.  ULC members please contact Robin Pelsis at robin.pelsis@LMAWMA.org or 847-202-0418 to make your reservation.
