Developing a Research Topic (Session One)
This first session will introduce participants to the topics and goals of the Introduction to Scholarly Research series and begin at the first step of the research process; namely, developing an effective topic. During the session, we will talk about considerations in choosing a topic, how to best structure a research question, and ways to mine conventional and unconventional sources for a better understanding of the background and current state of one’s field.
Introduction to Scholarly Research is a multipart instruction program designed to assist undergraduate and graduate students with the various stages of the research process. It is the goal of these sessions to create a welcoming and supportive environment where students can exchange ideas, share perspectives, get research support, and explore the innumerable possibilities of approaching a subject or a research project. These sessions are open to students from any discipline or academic program.
