Rare Book & Manuscript Library Events

Join us at the Rare Book & Manuscript Library on Saturday, April 2nd from 1-3pm, as we share our appreciation for medieval manuscripts with an in-person workshop led by Ruthann Mowry and Carrie Lingscheit from the RBML, and Siobhan McKissic from the Ricker Library of Architecture and Art. Learn all about medieval manuscripts and how they were created — in this hands-on workshop, you'll feel the texture of real parchment, create your own ink from fresh blackberries, try your hand at calligraphic writing with a quill pen, and more! We will also have some medieval treasures from our collection on display including a 600-year-old book!

Capacity is limited, so please use this form to pre-register asap for the onsite, in-person workshop: https://forms.illinois.edu/sec/506760465. Please note that the RBML classroom is an instructional space where masks are still required.

This workshop is best experienced hands-on, but we will also offer a limited virtual livestream of the calligraphy and ink-making table via Zoom for those who can't attend the event in-person.
