Join the Cancer Center at Illinois for a screening of "Cracking the Code: Phil Sharp and the Biotech Revolution." The documentary chronicles the life and career of Nobel Laureate and Illinois alumnus, Phil Sharp.

Narrated by Mark Ruffalo and part of the PBS Independent Lens documentary series, “Cracking the Code" tracks Sharp’s journey from his early days on a Kentucky tobacco farm to winning the Nobel Prize for his discovery of RNA splicing, which kick-started the global biotechnology revolution.

Phil and Ann Sharp will be joining us for this special event, and Phil will share his insights with the audience following the documentary viewing.

The screening will take place on April 23, 2026, at the Beckman Institute Auditorium. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. The program begins promptly at 4:00 p.m. Auditorium seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend you arrive early. There will be limited overflow seating.

A reception will follow in the Beckman Atrium. Please register here for reception planning purposes only. Your registration does not guarantee a seat in the auditorium.
