Title: A Human-centered Understanding of Differential Outcomes in AI-Mediated Work Settings
Abstract: AI systems are increasingly embedded into the everyday infrastructure of modern workplaces, from résumé screening systems to AI features built directly into productivity tools. These tools are often developed for general purposes and evaluated on benchmarks which do not account for the downstream impacts or the user’s experience. In this talk, I use online experiments and surveys to identify harms that remain invisible to model-centric evaluations and chart a path toward more holistic evaluation by proposing human-centered measurements for AI tools.
Bio: Kowe Kadoma is a final-year PhD student in Information Science at Cornell University. Her research characterizes new harms in AI systems and proposes frameworks to create safe, trustworthy, and inclusive AI. Kowe received an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from Florida A&M University. Her work is supported by a LinkedIn Fellowship, GEM Fellowship, and Digital Life Initiative (DLI) Fellowship.
