"Organic Molecules and Ultracold Atoms for a Hybrid Network"
Abstract: Organic molecules such as dibenzoterrylene (DBT) produce lifetime-limited photons below 3 K. We observe superradiant and subradiant states of molecular pairs tuned into resonance and integrate DBT emitters with high-Q photonic crystal cavities, achieving 40% coupling efficiency. We also discuss progress toward a hybrid quantum network with organic emitters and ultracold atoms, including narrow-line cooling and background-free imaging using the cesium quadrupole transition (685 nm, 6S-5D) and structured light with orbital angular momentum.
Bio: Jonathan Hood is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Physics at Purdue University. His lab conducts experimental research with ultracold laser-trapped atoms and cryogenic organic molecules. He completed his Ph.D. at Caltech in 2016 with Jeff Kimble, where he worked on trapping ultracold atoms around nanophotonic structures. He then conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard with Kang-Kuen Ni, working on laser assembly of ultracold molecules, before joining Purdue in 2020. He is a recipient of the 2023 NSF CAREER Award. He is also co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of QLuster Photonics
