Abstract: Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) is famously known for its beginnings as a part of the Manhattan Project during WW2, but did you know that LANL has a long history in quantum communication? that LANL had space missions before NASA was even formed? that you can be on a team that builds instruments for the Mars Rover while going skiing on your lunch break? During this career seminar, I will introduce LANL and discuss the work being done in Quantum Technology with a little satellite work on the side. I will also share my opinions on why I think LANL is a great place to be a postdoc.
Bio: Kristina is a Scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory leading the development of a program for long-range quantum sensing and quantum-enhanced security. She is a part of the Intelligence & Space Research group and hopes to one day put a quantum dot source on a satellite. She received her PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2021, with Prof. Paul Kwiat as her advisor. At UI, she worked on waveguide sources of polarization-entangled photons for space-based quantum protocols. In her free time, she enjoys hiking in the mountains surrounding Los Alamos, NM and knitting.
