Historics and Heirlooms

Almost everyone has something passed down through their family, an object with special meaning, or an item whose purpose or origin remains a mystery. Visitors are invited to share their family heirlooms and artifacts with volunteers from the Illinois State Archaeological Survey and local history and genealogy clubs. Through conversation and shared stories, participants can learn more about their objects and about local history.

This event aims to highlight the importance of oral traditions, as well as the roles of provenience and provenance in understanding the archaeological record and preserving cultural heritage. People of all ages are encouraged to participate. Information shared during these conversations is informal and will not be documented.
