Abstract: A degree in physics will prepare you for a variety of rewarding career paths. In this talk, I will introduce my own career path and discuss some of the lessons learned along the way. We will examine data from the American Institute of Physics that highlights the career paths of physics degree holders and describe a variety of career opportunities in the field. During this talk, we will discuss ways to work with your mentors and colleagues to help you work towards your career goals.
Bio: Brendan Kiburg graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign with a Bachelors in Physics Engineering and in 2011 received his PhD at UIUC in Physics for his research on two precision muon experiments, MuLan and MuCap. He took a brief postdoc at the University of Washington working on calorimeter design for the Muon g-2 Experiment and then joined Fermilab as a postdoctoral Lederman Fellow. At Fermilab, he has contributed to Muon g-2 as a leader of the magnetic field team, serving as Run Coordinator and magnetic field Analysis Coordinator. In 2021, Brendan took on the role of Muon Department Head, leading the muon research and operations programs at Fermilab. Recently, he has joined the Mu2e project to contribute to the straw tracker team. Brendan is also serving as a 2022-2023 American Physical Society Career Mentoring Fellow.
