Ikebana Flower Arranging Workshop

Ikebana, also known as the flower way (kadō), developed alongside the tea ceremony (chadō) with the introduction of Buddhism to Japan. The Ikenobo school of ikebana began more than 550 years ago, and is still flourishing today. You have an opportunity to be introduced to this ancient and modern art form during a flower workshop at Allerton Park with the Illinois Prairie Chapter of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of America. Through the flower way, by carefully observing how plants grow and arranging ikebana, you can discover new relationships with nature, others and ourselves.

At this workshop Jeanne Holy, Professor of Ikenobo Ikebana and president of the chapter will lecture about and demonstrate jiyuka or free flowers. Afterwards participants will arrange their own ikebana with the help of the instructor. Everything you need will be provided in the workshop. Your ikebana creation is yours to take home including the vase and flowers. Tools will be provided to you for use in the workshop.

Please meet in the Mansion Library.
