The Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology Center hosts a series of talks about topics related to Quantum Information Sciences in its various forms, including (but not limiting to): Quantum computers, Quantum simulation, Measuring the elusive Majorana fermion, and Photons. Talks will be given by senior researchers as well as students and postdocs.

"Hybrid superconducting photonic circuits"

Abstract: Superconducting and photonic circuits are among the most advanced platforms for quantum information processing. However, superconductivity and optics are incompatible in many aspects as superconductors could absorb photons and optical excitations are known to lead to excess microwave noises. I will present an ongoing effort at Yale that brings superconductivity and optics on a single chip platform, which enables new functions including ultrasensitive photon-number resolved detectors, efficient microwave-to-optical converters for quantum networks, and superconducting electro-optic modulators for cryogenic data links. 

Bio: Hong Tang is the Llewellyn West Jones Jr. Professor of Electrical Engineering and Physics at Yale University. His research explores integrated photonics and quantum systems, with interests spanning nonlinear optics, optomechanics, superconducting detectors, and microwave-to-optical transduction. His group develops new materials, devices, and architectures for quantum communication and information processing. Tang is a recipient of the Packard Fellowship for Science and Engineering and a Fellow of Optica.
