Abstract

Nearly all pandemics in the modern era are originated from animals. The impact of intensive land use and climate changes not only disrupts wildlife ecosystems but also increases the risk of spillover of zoonotic pathogens into the human population. The unprecedented loss of human lives, livelihood disruptions, and shuttering economies during the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the inadequacy of pandemic preparedness and the need to reinforce the existing pandemic readiness strategy. In today's seminar, I will elaborate on the importance of serology in infectious disease investigation and how next-generation serology helps assess the disease risk of novel zoonotic viruses.
