Dr. Sheri K. Lewis is a native of Chicago, Illinois. As a recent graduate of UIUC, her dissertation research focused on Black girl identity politics and subjectivities within Melt magazine. Melt magazine is a digital and printed magazine dedicated to Black girls' theories, politics, and aesthetics. Melt is developed with the premise that Black girls' identity are unique but when they do collective work they melt together. Dr. Lewis employs Melt magazine as a pedagogical tool to engage Black girls in literacy, visual arts, and identity politics. It is through Melt magazine, that Dr. Lewis is committed to promoting creative pedagogies and methodologies that ensures Black girl's are seen, heard, and valued.
