This workshop will build upon our discussion of backward course design and alignment to design assessments that are appropriate to achieve the learning goals in your classroom. We will examine formative v. summative and academic v. authentic assessment types and discuss when to use each. Attendees will work together to come up with examples of assessments that are appropriate for their learning objectives, with a focus on the long-term goals for student learning in the course. We will also discuss the design of fair assessments that accurately measure learning outcomes for the diverse variety of students in our classroom.

This workshop is part of the What You Need to Know: Essentials of Course Design summer series. You may sign up for any or all of the workshops in the series using the registration form. If you register, you'll eventually be added to a Canvas course to help follow along with the series. For those planning to join via Zoom, the link will be made available to you through the Canvas course.
