Directed by Colombian filmmaker Ciro Guerra, Embrace of the Serpent (2015) is an award-winning adventure drama. The film tells two stories featuring Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and the last survivor of his tribe, who possesses knowledge of the sacred Yakruna plant. One story takes place in 1909 with a German ethnographer, Theodor Koch-Grünberg. The other takes place in 1940, with an American botanist, Evans Schultes.
