The Tagore Festival is celebrated annually to commemorate Rabindranath Tagore’s 1912 visit to Urbana and his first public lecture in the US. The Annual Tagore Festival features a keynote lecture and a performance. This year, the theme is Tagore in the Age of Extraction. The keynote speaker is Professor Lisa Trivedi, historian. A performance based on two works by Tagore—Red Oleanders and The Land of Cards will follow the lecture. Here is a link to the current Tagore Festival website and a blog containing information about Tagore’s 1912 visit.
