Geography & Geographic Information Science

Geospatial technologies impact billions of lives, addressing real-world problems, from environmental monitoring to optimizing urban development. Geospatial computing, in particular, integrates hardware, software, and data to tackle complex spatial challenges. Innovation in geospatial computing traverses computational and geographic spaces, raising questions about how computing can empower people to tackle real-world problems while underscoring its limitations and inspiring further advances.

In this talk, I will share my journey through geospatial computing, starting with software. We will discuss how education is a critical component in advancing the field by lowering barriers to entry for geographers and other domain scientists. Finally, I will discuss my latest research venture into hardware and chart a new path in geospatial computing that dives even deeper into computational space in what I term Globe to Gates.
