In this talk, Professor Eve Darian-Smith (Professor and Chair, Global and International Studies, University of California, Irvine) will focus on wildfires in California, Australia, and Brazil, connecting them to the broader economic, social, and political issues underlying climate change, and exploring how these wildfires have become important signifiers of an unfolding global calamity. She will include material gleaned from the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) that convened in December 2023.
