Recent history has provoked new questions about democratic processes and the function of the novel at the present time. Democracy and the American Novel is a symposium that brings together some of the most exciting contemporary research exploring these concerns. Our participants will engage in a rich comparative dialogue on the relation between novels and politics in diverse contexts. Presenters include Lisa Siraganian, Paul J. Edwards, Chiyuma Elliott, Habiba Ibrahim, Justin L. Mann, Aida Levy-Hussen, Mary Esteve, Sean McCann, Melani McAlister, Caren Irr, and Sophia Azeb. Admission is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
