"The aim of this panel is to foster transnational discussions that critically explore social justice as they relate to language, culture, and community practices in Italian and Francophone cultures. For the past few years, graduate students in our department have spearheaded movements to raise awareness about inclusive linguistic practices and larger questions about social justice in our research and in our pedagogies with particular attention to race, gender, sexuality, and how different peoples and communities use French and Italian in their everyday lives. With support of our department, we are organizing this event to bring together activists and scholars whose work will facilitate this critical discussion."
