Taking Grief by the Hand: This four-week class is sponsored by the STEM Illinois Communiversity Wellness Center and seeks to create a supportive circle around grief and loss. The class will also provide information about available grief and loss resources. Shandra Summerville will facilitate the class along with invited guests who are experts on the topic and experienced loss. One treasure box will be given away during each class!
About Shandra Summerville
Shandra Summerville resides in Champaign, Illinois and serves as the Cultural and Linguistic Competence Coordinator for the Champaign County Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Boards. She specializes in cultural competence training and development for organizations that want to expand their capacity to become culturally responsive. In addition, she is an instructor for Mental Health First Aid for Adults, Public Safety and Adults Assisting Youth. Shandra has worked with numerous groups in the community: NAACP Champaign County Branch; the Rotary Club of Champaign; United Way Emerging Community Leaders Alumni Committee; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; The Hope Center Leaders Cabinet at the Vineyard Church of Urbana, Illinois; Canaan Development Foundation SAFE House Steering Committee; Illinois Public Media Community Advisory Committee; and Community Healing Through Resistance and Storytelling (C-HEARTS) Research Collaborative.
