My research focuses on elucidating the role of microglial cells and their phagocytic and inflammatory signaling cascades in the pathophysiology of epilepsy. Specifically, we are currently interrogating how aberrant levels of Triggering Receptor Expressed on Myeloid Cells 2 (Trem2), a microglial receptor, and the activation of the immune complement cascade contribute to memory deficits in temporal lobe epilepsy.
