This talk will explore the hypothesis that primates' ability to understand many types of complicated images relies on visual neurons encoding complex "prototypes" — learned templates combining colors, shapes, and textures. By studying multiple regions of the monkey brain, we will investigate the neuron’s range of tuning over vast image spaces, and how this relates to our exceptional visual abilities.
