Join us for a screening and conversation about collaboration and performance with faculty, students in screenwriting, acting, and advanced filmmaking as we talk about the recent writing and production of REDBALL.

The impulse was an interdepartmental partnership between Illinois Theatre Actors, Theatre Studies Screenwriters, and Media and Cinema Studies Filmmakers to create and produce original content from the ground up.  From harmonizing the visions and learning outcomes of over forty students, to last-minute changes and surprise obstacles on set, all while following COVID safety protocols, representatives from different facets of the process will discuss their experience creating REDBALL.

Participants

Faculty Panelists: Nisi Sturgis, Assistant Professor of Acting; Victor Font, Lecturer, Department of Media & Cinema Studies; Thomas Miller, Teaching Assistant Professor Illinois Theater

Student Screenwriters: Nathan Ramsey, Jackie Moreno

Student Actors: Stasia Kasimos, Latrel Crawford

Advanced Filmaking Students: Shana Olivero, Mark Capapas, Lincoln Rogers

About the film

Sam and Jessie travel to the heart of grief, friendship and the Krannert Art Museum in Red Ball. Written by the Theatre Studies Beginning Screenwriting students, filmed by the Media & Cinema Studies Advanced Filmmaking class, and starring the Illinois Theatre Department Senior On-Camera BFA actors, Red Ball is the first in a hopefully long line of interdepartmental collaborative short film projects.

An enterprise in magical realism, Red Ball was filmed on location in the Krannert Art Museum and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts over the course of six days, following COVID safety guidelines.

REDBALL will be shown April 15-17 in the Krannert Art Museum Auditorium (Room 62). The film will be on continuous loop, with sound, and open to the public. Admission is free.
