The 10th day of the first month (Muharram) of the Islamic calendar marks a holy day (known as Ashura) whose significance varies among Islamic sects. Sunnis consider it the day that God parted the Red Sea to allow Moses and the Israelites to escape Egypt. For Shia and Sufi Muslims, Ashura is an important and solemn occasion marking the Remembrance or Mourning of Muharram.

Residents are invited to participate in a free yoga class by Sri Sri Yoga every Sunday. Yoga offers numerous benefits for both the mind and body. It enhances flexibility, strength, and balance through various poses and stretches. Additionally, yoga promotes mental well-being by reducing stress and anxiety, and improving focus and relaxation.

Visit with Illinois Extension staff or volunteers on select Monday mornings from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Cultivating Care Garden. Learn how to water, weed, and harvest produce, which will be weighed and delivered to the Salvation Army Food Pantry in Marion. Have fun meeting up with other community members and sharing gardening tips.

The Student Wellness Coalition (SWC) is a combination of graduate student organizations within the chemistry department, driven to improve department culture and student wellbeing. We meet on the first Monday of every month at 3 pm in CLSL-C605. Meetings are open to all graduate students and post-docs in chemistry or working in chemistry research groups.

It is one of the nine holy days of the year when work is suspended and children are exempted from attending school. Begins at sunset of the first day and ends at sunset of the last day.
