Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL)

The Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning is dedicated to promoting, enhancing, and assessing teaching effectiveness and student learning. We assist faculty, academic units, and teaching assistants in improving instruction. In addition to the events listed below, we are always available for individual consultations or special activities within a department or college.     The traditional lecture mode is the oldest and most widely used teaching method. However, when compared to other teaching methods, it is often not as effective in areas such as student retention of information and problem-solving. Join us as we will explore ways this enhanced lecture method can be more effective; e.g., in organization, delivery, and student engagement.

    In this workshop, we’ll use group discussion and some short journaling exercises to start generating material that you might use as you craft your different teaching statements. The idea is to explore both your philosophical identity as a teacher and to connect facets of that identity to concrete examples that will be useful to your statements.
