Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL)

The Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning is dedicated to promoting, enhancing, and assessing teaching effectiveness and student learning. We assist faculty, academic units, and teaching assistants in improving instruction. In addition to the events listed below, we are always available for individual consultations or special activities within a department or college. Most of the workshops count toward CITL certificate program continuing education credit. Please check back often to see what events have been added.     Barbara Oakley says that “students fool themselves into thinking they’re learning.” Students may believe that they “know” the content and that they can easily retrieve what they learned; however when it comes down to doing assignments or exams, they are often unsuccessful.     A syllabus is more than a contract or a schedule and listing of topics. What is the message and first impression? Take a moment to think about your syllabus: is it welcoming, supportive, fair? This is a great opportunity to think about how/if your syllabus promotes a learning-centered environment.
