The Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning is dedicated to promoting, enhancing, and assessing teaching effectiveness and student learning. We assist faculty, academic units, and teaching assistants in improving instruction. In addition to the events listed below, we are always available for individual consultations or special activities within a department or college. Attendees will learn principles and best practices for designing assignments and rubrics for grading them. Participants will create an assignment and create and attach a rubric. We will also demonstrate how to grade using rubrics and provide feedback, as well as how students submit those assignments.

We'll kick off this summer workshop series with an overview of backward design, a simple course design method that will help you ensure proper alignment of objectives, assessments, and activities within your course.

Your course doesn't happen in a vacuum-- your institution, your space, your students, and your own context all impact how your subject is taught and learned. This session focuses on identifying the situational factors that will inform the way you design your course.

Learning objectives are the foundation upon which your course activities and assessments are built. In this workshop, you will learn about ways to think about learning objectives and develop some of your own.
