Research Day features formal presentations as well as a lunchtime poster session, where college researchers including veterinary students, graduate students, trainees, staff, and faculty members present their research progress.
Toxoplasma gondii, a protozoan parasite transmitted by cats, infects all animals, including a staggering one-third of the human population. The parasite persists in the host for life and has been associated with behavioral changes in rodents and linked to schizophrenia in humans. Sullivan presents promising new treatments that target the latent stage of T. gondi.
Dr. Heidi Phillips offers individualized, intensive training including the proper use of an operating microscope, micro-instruments, micro-suture, and live animal models (rats). Course enrollment is limited to 3 learners per course who are closely monitored throughout. Dr. Phillips provides hands-on guidance and skill evaluation.
