Beckman and Campus Calendars

Two graduate students will present their research at the third Beckman Graduate Student Seminar of the fall semester: Jenna Cario and YiRang Shin. Lunch will be provided to registered attendees. The event takes place Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at noon in 5602 Beckman Institute.

Come learn about the research of the Beckman Graduate Fellows through a series of 3-minute lightning talks followed by an interactive open house.

Dr. Grillot will review the recent findings and prospects on nanostructure based light emitters made with quantum-dot technology. Many applications ranging from silicon-based integrated solutions to quantum information systems will be presented. In addition, Dr. Grillot will strongly highlight the importance of nanotechnologies in industry and society.

The Cognitive Neuroscience seminar series with Prof. Audrey Duarte, University of Texas-Austin will present a seminar on "Individual differences factors that exacerbate age-related memory impairments."

Spns lipid transporters are critical for transporting sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) and lysolipids across cellular membranes. S1P regulates the growth, survival, and migration of cells with profound proangiogenic effects. In humans, Spns2 acts as the main S1P transporter in endothelial cells, making it a potential drug target for modulating S1P export and signaling.

The Cognitive Neuroscience seminar series continues its series with Tao Chen, graduate student of the Cognitive Neuroimaging Lab, UIUC. Chen will present a lecture on his first year project, "Bypassing input to V1 in visual awareness: a TMS-EROS investigation."

The STC for Quantitative Cell Biology / Biological Physics (iPoLS) continues its lecture series with Glenn Fried, Institute of Genomic Biology, UIUC. Fried will present a lecture titled "Cell imaging to the 2nm scale in the IGB Core."

The Beckman Imaging Technology Group Tech Talks lecture series continues with graduate student Mahmoud Mahrous to learn about the use of SEM, Micro CT Profilometer, and Nano Indentation on recent papers, "'Multimodal imaging of hierarchical equine hoof wall porosity and structure" and "Investigating Irradiation effects on Metakaolin-Based Geopolymer."

The Cognitive Neuroscience seminar series continues its series with Prof. Howard Gritton, Department of Comparative Biosciences and Neuroscience Program, UIUC. Dr. Gritton will present a lecture on "Using animal models to reveal the role of cortical oscillations during sensory guided behavior."

STC for Quantitative Cell Biology / Biological Physics (iPoLS) continues its lecture series with Prasanth Kannanganattu, School of Molecular and Cellular Biology, UIUC will present a lecture titled, "NcRNA-mediated gene regulation during cancer progression."
