She is a Gender Officer at Aksum Institute, a member of Women in AI Ethiopia and Black In Ai, Women in Machine Learning and Global Society of Tigran. Frehiwot publications cover topics such as Machine Learning, Data mining, mobile computing and human computer interaction.

The Humanities Research Institute and The Women and Gender in Global Perspectives Program co-host an annual event bringing together faculty, staff, students, and community members to recognize people who have made a difference in academia. Each speaker will have five minutes to tell the story of the woman in his or her discipline that changed the field in important ways.

In 2021, the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL), through a generous grant, piloted a non-creditbearing program leading to a professional Certificate in Diverse and Inclusive Pedagogies (CDIPS) for K-12 and post-secondary faculty and graduate students who plan to pursue careers teaching Slavic and East European languages.

This lecture debates upon the definition and function of the term, ‘identity’ and ‘culture’ leading to the argument that identity encapsulates difference while culture is a phenomenon by which decolonization occurs.
