ABSTRACT | I was recently asked whether I would still defend single-thread performance as something important. I think they expected me to say no. But the more I think about it, even with billions of transistors, there is good reason to argue for the importance of working on single-thread performance today. So I said, sure. So, now they are planning a reprise.
