Latino Family Visit Day is a bilingual, daylong program open to all students and families. Participants will connect with campus resources, meet university staff, and engage in activities and meaningful dialogue about academics, financial aid, campus life, the transition to college, and supporting student success.

Come learn from an interdisciplinary faculty panel on the various paths to publication! This panel brings together scholars and publishing professionals to discuss the academic publishing process. Join us for lunch and visit campus resource tables from 12-12:30 followed by panel discussion 12:30-1:30pm.

In this talk, José A. de la Garza Valenzuela (Assistant Professor in the Department of Latina/o Studies a the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) traces the legal and literary histories of the new legal grammars of U.S Citizenship in an introduction to his recently published book, Queer in a Legal Sense: Brown Citizenship and Other Lawful Fictions."

Graduate Student Workshop, "Writing Effective Fellowship Proposals for Research Abroad" will be Wednesday, Oct. 21 12-2:30pm in Illini Room A, Illini Union, 1401 W. Green Street, Urbana. Lunch provided for registered attendees at 12 pm with workshop 12:15-2:30pm. The workshop will be led by Dana Johnson, PhD, Director of External Fellowship Office, Graduate College

Dr. Maria Hadjipolycarpou, Teaching Assistant Professor, Department of Classics and Director of Modern Greek Studies will give lunch talk, "Class, Gender, and Secularization in Costas Montis’ Afentis Batistas and the Other Things" on Thursday, October 22nd.

CSGGE Lunch Series, "Gender Equity in an Inequitable Era" will host Yeaseul Hur is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Labor and Employment Relations at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her talk, "When Women Are Ideal Workers: The Gendered Impact of Overwork on Wages and Promotion”, will take place on October 29th at 12pm in person at 306 Coble Hall and virtual.

Our November lecture will be on Thursday, November 12 from 12pm-1pm with Dr. Mary Caruso Dailey. Dr. Dailey earned her PhD in Chemistry in 2010 and is currently a Lead Product Development Specialist for 3M. She will discuss her research on adhesives for electronics bonding and experiences as a graduate student in Chemistry at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

In this fireside chat, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Gies College of Business alum Luis Jaimes-Illanes, co-founder of Conecta Mentora and Senior Network Engineer at Altaeros, a leading aerospace company, will share how his involvement on campus helped prepare him for his work internationally.

Marwah Malik from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning will give virtual lunch talk, "Threads of Care: Ralli-making and Women's wellbeing Under Climate Stress". This presentation will explore how climate change shapes unpaid care work, livelihood strategies, and adaptive capacity among women in climatically vulnerable fisherfolk communities in Badin, Pakistan.

Illinois Alumnus Batamaka Somé, PhD in Anthropology with a CSGGE Minor will give a talk titled "Pillars of Resilience: Rural Women’s Leadership and Farmer-Centered Research for Food System Transformation in the West African Sahel" on December 8, 2026 at 4:00pm in 210 Levis Faculty Center.
