Taiwanese artist Yao Jui-Chung and critic Kao Chien-Hui engage in a conversation about Yao's practice within Taiwan's layered histories of migration, colonialism, martial law, and contested boundaries. Dr. Hazel Wilkinson hypothesizes that “emblem-literacy” caused historical readers to engage with ornamented books in ways previously unaccounted-for in scholarship.
