Increasing evidence supports a key role of tau in mediating synaptic and cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. The seminar will introduce a common mechanism underlying these diseases: the redistribution of microtubule associated protein tau (MAPT) from the axon into the somatodendritic compartments of neurons and further into dendritic spines, causing loss of AMPA receptors in spines.
