Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is at the heart of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which is used worldwide by health care providers and in medical research. NMR is also one of the main analytical tools for structural and biological chemistry. Perhaps less known is the application of MRI and NMR in the fields of chemical engineering, porous media research and soft matter.
This seminar will demonstrate the potentials and versatility of Magnetic Resonance (MR) methods beyond medical imaging and spectroscopy. I will showcase how transport processes can be monitored with MR non-invasively, thus providing insight into structure and performance of natural and engineered porous materials. Furthermore, examples for the MR assisted characterization of complex and biological materials will be given. If time permits, the seminar will be extended towards accelerated experimental protocols for rapid sample characterization.
