Violence is a public health crisis, impacting many children, youth, families, and communities. However, research and evidence-based practices have taught us that violence, and the impacts of violence, can be prevented. These strategies include supporting the healthy development of families, providing high quality education, promoting positive youth development, creating and sustaining protective communities, and intervening and supporting those impacted by violence and trauma. This presentation will discuss these evidence-based prevention strategies, as well as highlight work happening in Illinois to strengthen violence prevention efforts.
Presenter: Professor Rachel Garthe, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign School of Social Work
