Title: F*** You Ethan
“If you’re expecting me to talk about someone named Ethan after reading the title, you’re so wrong.”
—Ava
This exhibition takes you into a small portion of Ava Maken Ali’s apartment, which serves as a literature review for her dissertation (with thanks to Dr. Jorge Lucero for describing it this way). It highlights how Ava’s living space is actively curated to reflect and engage with the key ideas, themes, and theories she is exploring.
“F*** You Ethan” is part of her apartment. Ethan is a sacrifice. “F*** You Ethan” is a protest title—not just about Ethan, but also against oppression and societal norms that try to silence us. It speaks to all those moments when you were betrayed but remained silent to be considered “good.”
