Abstract:
Material Driven, an international design firm and materials library, led by Purva Chawla and Adele Orcajada, will host a workshop in which participants will get hands-on experience creating their own bioplastics and bioleather from easy to find, sustainable, and edible materials. This workshop will get messy so please come dressed appropriately, and bring your own cooking pot and banana peels! All other materials will be provided by the Ricker Library of Architecture & Art and the Sustainable Design program. Limit 15 participants for in-person workshop. If you choose to join online, you can pick up workshop materials at the Ricker Library between February 12–14, while supplies last.

Bio:
Adele Orcajada has been a material researcher, librarian, and curator since 2014, having worked at various London Material Libraries, before becoming a partner at Material Driven, where she continues to explore material innovation with brands and institutions. She has lectured at fashion and design schools in Spain and the UK, and regularly contributes to talks and events on material innovation, sustainability, and circular economy. Adele works at the intersection between craft, design, and science to educate and create awareness of a new generation of material makers and their commercial potential.
