Japan House Events

Japan House is proud to be a participating garden in the North American Japanese Garden Association's Gardens for Peace (G4P) project. Japan House is offering outside garden tours led by Susan Kapacinskas to learn about the unique pattern for peace raked in the dry rock garden. We hope that guests will learn and appreciate the many facets of the gardens that are meant to evoke peace and tranquility for all who visit. Before the garden tour, guests will write a wish for peace on a crane that will be hung in the gardens. Guests will receive a separate crane strand to take home. Garden tours will occur rain or shine - please prepare accordingly.

Inside, Japan House will have a ryurei (table-style) tea ceremony for peace at 12pm. The building will not be open for public walkthrough due to the tea ceremony. Tickets for the tea ceremony must be purchased separately from garden tour tickets. Garden tour tickets do not include entry to the tea ceremony and tea ceremony tickets do not include the garden tour.

Gardens for Peace (G4P) is an annual NAJGA event. It brings communities together in Japanese gardens, both public and private, to promote peace. A peace pattern is raked into dry gardens to promote peace and involve the community.

Gardens for Peace (G4P) is a NAJGA project that brings communities together in Japanese gardens to promote peace. 14 North American gardens participated in G4P’s inaugural year in 2021. This year activities at participating gardens will take place during the months of August and September. Through the warm inclusion of community organizations in this project, the North American Japanese Garden Association aims to bring Japanese Gardens and local community members together through G4P to inspire inner peace by connecting with others around us who are working towards peace.
