The Language Workshop at Indiana University, the Slavic Reference Service, and the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) are hosting an online discussion series - Research and Language Learning. We are inviting established scholars and students to discuss the role language proficiency plays in conducting research, using examples of published scholarly works or ongoing research projects. The initiative will be launched with the Turkic languages of Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Turkish, Uyghur, and Uzbek. We welcome language learners of all academic backgrounds to participate in these discussions. The next installment features Dr. Marianne Kamp. Join us on March 23 at 3pm CT for the talk entitled "Learning to Listen in Uzbek: Oral History and Language Proficiency."
